1. Jain Chawal Wale

For times when you’re on a budget, Jain Chawal Wale comes to rescue. You can get a plateful of Rajma-Chawal or Kadhi-Chawal for Rs. 60 and eat to your heart’s content. They open as early as 5 A.M. and dole out hot parathas for breakfast.

2. Pehalwan Da Hotel

This well-known dhaba in Paharganj is famous for the Kharode ka Soup (mutton paya soup). They first opened their doors way back in 1948 and haven’t looked back ever since. The menu here is limited and has more non-vegetarian dishes than vegetarian ones. The seating isn’t fancy, obviously. But, this place is worth visiting if you’re looking for a quick meal near Connaught Place. With dishes that start as low as Rs 70, it’s possible to come here with three-four people and have a filling meal for under Rs 1,000.

3. Anand Biryani

This place is located in the by-lanes of Janpath, so it may be a little tricky to locate. It may not be the most aesthetic place, but you wouldn’t care so much about that once you get your plate of steaming hot biryani splashed with their fiery chutney. For the price they charge, the quantity is enough for two people.

Anyone will tell you that Sitaram Diwan Chand is the best place to go to for a piping hot plate of Chole Bhatura in New Delhi. If you haven’t already been there, you absolutely must. Loyalists rave about their soft and fluffy Bhaturas and even head over for the other cheap breakfast options.

5. Rajinder Da Dhaba


They use the word dhaba for posterity, because it looks nothing like one. Their galoutis, tawa mutton and mutton curry will give you something to write home about and if you live here, then just put it on Facebook. Fair warning: it’s always crowded, so you might have to come to terms with not scoring a table, but there’s always home delivery.
